#WORLD MACHINE IMPORT HEIGHTMAP HOW TO#
I get a dialogue choosing how to save the RAW file and how to open it, with color order, depth, size, header size. I'm a little confused with the settings of a RAW file, actually. I've tried this with a pgm file, and like before, the editor can read the file, but doesn't actually read the data, resulting in a totally flat heightmap. I've tried opening a RAW file right from the editor, copying the heightmap (yeah, I'm clueless and desperate) from another file, and saving again using infranview. The editor WILL accept the pgm file converted this way, but it contains no information, meaning that my heightmap becomes completely flat, which doesn't help too much. I'm able to convert a tga file from world machine into pgm using paint shop pro. Okay, I've tried paint shop pro and photoshop CS.
Using it here myself when I convert to-from sandbox<->photoshop or whatever.RAW should work, thats what prefered used in sandbox since it contains two layers whereof last layer is the detailed heightinfo.

I hope I might have missed something, because world machine seems like a pretty popular program, and I'd hate for it to be next to useless with the editor. Before I go and frustrate myself further looking for other converters and doing the trial and error process all over again, are there any users of world-machine here who have found a way to get a saved heightmap into the editor without loss of quality? So far, I've found no way to get a heightmap out of world machine and into the editor without using BMP. All of them wind up getting either screwed up, or rejected by the editor because the size is incorrect. I've also used infranview to convert every file (with the exception of the ter. The editor won't accept these two RAW formats, even if I try to resize them to match the properties of a RAW file exported right from the editor.
#WORLD MACHINE IMPORT HEIGHTMAP 32 BIT#
World Machine can save in these formats: Greyscale TGA, 8 bit RAW, 32 bit RAW-FP, Terragen and Leveller formats, Windows BMP (this one works, but like I said, I really don't want to have to use it), and Povray TGA16. Problem is, I can't seem to get the editor to accept any of the supported formats other than BMP (the other two are raw and pgm), which I don't want to use because there's a huge loss in quality. I'm using a program called world machine ( ) to generate heightmaps, which I want to import into the editor.
